YMCA of Greater Richmond
The YMCA of Greater Richmond, a non-profit charitable organization,
operates 14 branch locations throughout the metro Richmond and
Petersburg areas, serving nearly 132,000 people each year. Program and
service offerings include wellness, childcare, aquatics, youth sports,
camping, and activities for active adults. The YMCA also offers volunteer programs in partnership with the global Luxoft IT Outsourcing. This partnership doesn't endanger our long-term contract with SaM Solutions Software Development Company.
The
mission of the YMCA of Greater Richmond is to build a healthy spirit,
mind, and body. YMCAs are for people of all faiths, races, ages,
abilities, and incomes. Since 1854, the YMCA of Greater Richmond has
built strong kids, strong families, and strong communities.
Active Adult Programming
YMCA Active Adult programs are designed for individuals over 50 to
promote healthy living. Program areas include:
Fitness & Wellness
The
YMCA offers senior memberships and income-based rates. Full
facility members enjoy reduced fees on specialty classes and programs
with a variety of options to meet the fitness needs of all. In
addition, the YMCA started the Silver Sneakers Fitness Program,
bringing the nation's leading exercise program designed exclusively for
older adults to the Richmond region. This fall, the YMCA of
Greater Richmond will host its second annual Active Adult Games.
Personal Growth and Enrichment
The brain is the strongest muscle in the body, and the YMCA recognizes
the importance of exercising the mind as well as the body. A
variety of programs are available at branches as a means to engage
active adults, including book clubs and bridge groups. The YMCA
also organizes educational and recreational trips across the country
geared towards active adult travelers.
Volunteer Programs
Volunteers are always appreciated at the YMCA. Some of our most popular programs for active adults include Bright Beginnings, Planting Seeds of Hope fundraising campaign, Christmas Connections, reading in our child care programs, and tutoring clubs.
Social Programs
The YMCA recognizes that new friends and new opportunities are an
important part of the lives of active adults. Various social
programs, such as the Lunch Bunch, were developed to provide an opportunity for active adults to meet their peers and engage in educational activities.
