Event Schedule & Activity Details
canalWALK
2007 offers a full afternoon of entertainment for the young and
young-at-heart. The day begins with a 3K walk, exploring sites in
downtown Richmond, followed by multi-generational activities and
demonstrations, and food on Brown’s Island, and concluding with
top-line musical performances. Following is the event schedule:

Discover Richmond Scavenger Hunt
– New to canalWALK this year, a fun activity to help all the
generations of your family appreciate Richmond in a new way while you
walk! Find a few hidden surprises among the scenery and "discover
Richmond!" Game cards will be available at the gate - bring the
whole gang, and join in the FUN!!!
Prizes – Team
prizes for Best Team Name, Most Team Spirit & Highest Average
Fundraising. Individual awards for Best-Decorated Grand-Family
(consider the perfect combo of clothing and accessories that will
create the look that captures the spirit of your family or team), Most
Walkers Recruited, Highest Total Fundraising, and More!! Team prizes
and individual fundraising and recruiting awards depend on accurate
capture of referral information. Remind your teammates and sponsors to
provide your name when ordering tickets or making a donation to
canalWALK.
GRTC Shuttle Service & Parking
GRTC Transit System is providing convenient shuttle service every 30-45
minutes, from 1:00 to 9:00 PM between the following locations and
Brown’s Island:
- Arthur Ashe Center (3001 N. Boulevard)
- Cloverleaf Mall (7201 Midlothian Turnpike; Sears Automotive parking lot)
- Senior Connections (24 E. Cary Street)
- University of Richmond Stadium (Douglas Dale & McCloy Roads)
Free
event parking is available in the parking deck at Riverside on the
James, the new office tower at Haxall Point, located at 1001 Haxall
Point Road (from Byrd Street, turn right onto 10th Street, and the
Haxall Point entrance will be on your left).
Packet Pick-up
The following venues have been scheduled for registrants to pick up
their T-shirts and related materials in advance of the event day. NOTE:
You must present a copy of your admission ticket(s) to obtain your
materials. Please bring all tickets in your order to the packet
pick-up, to account for the number of packets needed.
- Wednesday, May 16, 11:30 AM-1:30 PM in the West Tower lobby of Riverfront Plaza (901 E. Byrd Street, Richmond, VA). Park in the front circle.
- Wednesday, May 16, 5:00-8:00 PM at both the Midlothian YMCA (737 Coalfield Road, Midlothian, VA) and Shady Grove YMCA (11255 Nuckols Road, Glen Allen, VA).
- Thursday, May 17, 11:30 AM-1:30 PM in the West Tower lobby of Riverfront Plaza (901 E. Byrd Street, Richmond, VA). Park in the front circle.
- Thursday, May 17, 5:00-8:00 PM at both the Midlothian YMCA (737 Coalfield Road, Midlothian, VA) and Shady Grove YMCA (11255 Nuckols Road, Glen Allen, VA).
Can't make it to one of these pick-up locations? Not to worry, you may pick-up your materials on event day at the Registration
area. (Tip: Avoid the lines on event day and select one of
the locations to pick-up your event materials in advance!)

Are
you out of town on May 19, but still would like to participate in
canalWALK? Or would you like to sponsor a friend or colleague who is
walking for Long, Healthy Life? You can join the canalWALK wave by
making a tax-deductible donation to Senior Connections and the YMCA.
Donate online while you register, or to make a contribution by check:

you are sponsoring another walker, he or she will collect, log and
